The Vegetarian Diet On Par With The Mediterranean Diet?

The Mediterranean Diet is often hailed and referred to as the worlds healthiest and safest diet to follow, taking up its eating habits from many countries across the Mediterranean to boost body and mind. Recently, the Vegetarian Diet has been proven to be just as healthy and beneficial as its Mediterranean cousin.

The Vegetarian Diet

A recent study published in Circulation, a medical journal, explored the difference between both, the Mediterranean and Vegetarian Diet. Studying the effects of both diets on the body by conducting a six month long trial period on 107 obese participants. While all participants were relatively healthy, each of them spent six months between the Mediterranean Diet and the Vegetarian Diet to determine the effectiveness of each diet on the human body.

The Mediterranean Diet encourages protein intake, consumption of fish, nuts, and poultry while the Vegetarian Diet prohibits meat, fish, and poultry but allows the consumption of eggs and dairy. Each participant in the trials was regularly examined and medically evaluated during the six month period and guided towards a lower and healthier calory count by several nutritionists.

The Same?

After evaluations and further examinations, researchers determined that both diets were equally as effective. In terms of cutting down body weight, fat mass, and body mass as well as overall nutrition intake, beneficial additions to body and mind and more, the Vegetarian and Mediterranean Diet are equally as healthy and effective. Both diets also equally benefit the cardiovascular system, boosting the hearts health and cutting down on the risk of any future disease or illness that might occur.

Notes observed from the Vegetarian Diet are that it helped reduce cholesterol levels and a much lower risk to heart disease and/or stroke.
