The 5:2 Mediterranean Diet And What You Need To Know

Whether you're trying to lose weight, find a new diet plan to follow or looking to add some simple and beneficial additions to your daily eating habits, you've definitely heard of the 5:2 diet.

The 5:2 Mediterranean

The 5:2 diet is a diet based on simple and highly beneficial intermittent fasting to upgrade your health. As one of the worlds most well-known forms of fasting, the 5:2 diet works by eating regular and proper meals for 5 days while fasting for the remaining 2 to keep the number of calories consumed under 500. Designed by Dr.Michael Mosley, the 5:2 just has received a twist to it called the 5:2 Mediterranean diet as many were struggling with just 500 calories a day, where Dr.Mosley upped it to 800 calories a day.

As written on his website, Dr.Mosley said “There is overwhelming scientific evidence that a low carb Mediterranean-style diet — one rich in vegetables, olive oil, nuts and the occasional glass of wine or bite of dark chocolate — is better for weight loss, blood sugar control and improving cholesterol than going on a low fat diet,”

How Does It Work?

The 5:2 diet works around the idea that a quick drop in calories consumed will assist the body in draining its fat from your vital and major organs which in turn improves and stabilizes your blood pressure and reduce the amount of fat blocking the liver and other vital arteries. By cutting down your calorie intake to 800 for 2 days of the week, your body will naturally achieve these levels of benefits.

Nutritionist Ritesh Bawri says that “By restricting your diet over the two day period, your body goes into calorie deficit. Also, since your body is used to getting a regular dose of food over a five day period, you are shocking your body over the balance two days. This confusion is what allows your body to let go of excess weight. Those who have tried it agree that if you follow the diet, it will help you achieve your weight loss goals.”
